The data show donations to a charity shop and the number of shoppers visiting the shop for each of 12 months in 2019. Jorja uses the data to draw the statistical diagram shown.
Complete the diagram by inserting the three things that are currently missing.

How to approach this question

Every good graph or chart needs three key components to be understood: 1. A main title that describes what the graph is showing. 2. A label for the horizontal (x) axis, including units. 3. A label for the vertical (y) axis, including units. Look at the diagram and the context given in the question to determine what these labels should be.

Full Answer

The diagram is a scatter graph plotting two variables against each other. To be complete, it needs: 1. **A Title:** This should summarise what the graph displays. A suitable title would be "Graph to show donations to, and shoppers visiting, a charity shop" or "Scatter graph of Donations vs Number of Shoppers". 2. **X-axis Label:** The horizontal axis shows values like 2000, 2500, etc. The table indicates this is "Donations (nearest 100)". 3. **Y-axis Label:** The vertical axis shows values like 125, 150, etc. The table indicates this is "Shoppers (nearest 10)". Adding these three elements makes the graph clear and understandable.

Common mistakes

✗ Forgetting to include units in the axis labels (e.g., just "Donations" instead of "Donations (nearest 100)"). ✗ Giving a vague title like "Graph". ✗ Mixing up the x and y axis labels.
